How to Start Taking Care of Your Body After Loss — At Your Own Pace.

I had a C-section. And I lost my baby.

For the first three to four weeks, I cried. A lot. That is the honest truth. I was grieving and recovering from major surgery at the same time — and nobody really prepares you for what that feels like.

But in week two, I started walking. Even when it was hard. Even when it hurt. Even when it was only 5 to 10 minutes.

Not because I had a fitness goal. But because I needed something — anything — to focus on.

The Walk That Changed Everything

I started cooking a lot too — just to keep my hands busy, to keep my mind somewhere. But the grief didn’t go away. My mind didn’t “get diverted” the way I hoped it would.

But the walk in nature? That helped. In a way I didn’t expect.

Because on those walks, it was just me. And my angel baby.

No one telling me “don’t cry.” No one telling me “be strong” or “it is what it is” or “at least you have your toddler.” Just me, the fresh air, and my boy. I would cry sometimes during those walks. And that was okay. It was just us.

I crossed through that pain at my own pace. And slowly — very slowly — the walks got a little easier. And then a little longer. And then one day I was back to a workout routine. And back to eating well. Not because I forced it. Because I let myself get there.

If You Don’t Feel Like Getting Off the Couch

I hear you. I really do.

My advice — even when you don’t feel like it — is this:

Walk. Even for 5 minutes. Take your angel baby with you. It doesn’t have to be exercise. It just has to be movement. Fresh air. A moment that belongs to only you and them.

Your mind may not get diverted. The grief will still be there. But your body will begin to remember that it is still alive. Still capable. Still worth taking care of.

And that is enough for now. That is everything.

What Week 1 Actually Looks Like

When you feel even a flicker of readiness — here is what I recommend. Nothing aggressive. Nothing that adds pressure to an already heavy season.

→  Walk 5–10 minutes daily. Outside if you can. Fresh air matters. You don’t need shoes, a plan, or a destination. Just move.

→  Eat one protein-rich meal a day. Not a perfect diet. Not tracking. Just one meal where you consciously choose protein. Eggs. Chicken. Greek yogurt. Whatever feels manageable.

→  Drink water. Keep a bottle next to you. Grief is exhausting and dehydration makes everything harder.

→  Give yourself permission to cry. On the walk, in the kitchen, in the shower. Let it out. Grief that is held in becomes weight that is carried everywhere.

→  Do nothing else. Week 1 is not the time for a program. It is the time to simply exist — and begin.

There Is No Right Timeline

I want to be very clear about this: there is no timeline for when you “should” start. There is no week that is too early or too late. There is only the week that feels right for you.

I started walking in week 2 after my C-section — not because a coach told me to, but because I needed it. You might be in week 8, week 20, or a year out from your loss. It does not matter. The moment you feel ready is the right moment.

What matters is that when you get there, you have support. You have a plan that understands your body, your grief, and your story.

You Crossed Through Your Pain At Your Own Pace

I did. And you will too.

Not because someone pushed you. Not because you had a deadline. But because you are stronger than this grief — even when it doesn’t feel that way. Even when you are walking 5 minutes through tears.

Take your angel baby on that walk today. Even for 5 minutes. That is where it starts. 👼
